Happy Gilmore 2 Review

 

I was really looking forward to watching this movie. Even though I knew it wouldn’t be as funny as the first film, I gave it a chance. I mean, how bad could it be? Turns out… pretty bad.

Happy Gilmore 2 picks up with Happy (Adam Sandler) older, grumpier, and trying to fund his daughter Vienna’s ballet dreams in Paris. Sunny Sandler plays Vienna, and Sadie Sandler—Adam’s other daughter—also has a role as Charlotte, a recovering alcoholic. Honestly, the only nice thing about this film is that Adam’s daughters are in it. That’s the one redeeming quality. Everything else? A swing and a miss.

Sure, there were a couple of funny moments. I chuckled when Ben Stiller returned as Hal L., and it was nice to see Julie Bowen back as Virginia and Christopher McDonald reprising his role as Shooter McGavin. Even Steve Buscemi popped up as a weird neighbor, which felt like a fever dream. But nostalgia alone can’t carry a movie, and this one felt like it was dragging its golf cart through wet cement.

The plot? Happy’s trying to raise $300,000 for ballet school, which somehow leads to a drunken golfing accident, a municipal course meltdown, and a parade of celebrity cameos that feel more like a checklist than a story. Bad Bunny plays Happy’s new caddy, Oscar, and while he’s surprisingly funny, it’s not enough to save the film from its own mess.

There’s a moment where you think, “Okay, maybe this is going somewhere,” and then it doesn’t. It just kind of meanders through slapstick and sentimentality without ever finding its footing. By the end, you’re not cheering for Happy—you’re just hoping the credits roll soon.

So yeah, I gave it a shot. I wanted to love it. But aside from seeing Adam Sandler’s daughters get some screen time, this sequel is more bogey than birdie.
