Night Sky Review

I’m not sure how I discovered this series, but I’m pretty sure I was up too late, scrolling through all the various shows on Amazon. "Night Sky" is a captivating sci-fi drama that stars Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons as Franklin and Irene York, an elderly couple who discover a portal to a deserted planet in their backyard. How was this portal found? One day, they were exploring their backyard and found an underground chamber with a mysterious portal hidden within.

The series delves into their quiet lives being disrupted by the arrival of an enigmatic young man, Jude (Chai Hansen), who brings mystery and danger to their doorstep. The show beautifully balances the tender moments of a long-married couple with the suspense of a sci-fi thriller. Spacek and Simmons deliver poignant performances, capturing the essence of a couple navigating their twilight years while dealing with extraordinary circumstances. The series also explores themes of family, loss, and the unknown, making it a heartfelt and thought-provoking watch.

"Night Sky" has a slow-burn mystery reminiscent of shows like "Outer Range" and "Dark". Like "Outer Range," it features a moody, atmospheric setting with a sci-fi twist. The series also shares similarities with "Dark" in its intricate storytelling and how it weaves together different timelines and characters.

If you enjoyed the suspense and emotional depth of "Night Sky," you might also appreciate "Lost" for its deep characters and mystery box elements. "Severance" is another series that combines sci-fi with a psychological thriller, offering a bleak yet intriguing narrative.

Overall, "Night Sky" is a unique blend of sci-fi and drama that keeps you engaged with its rich world-building and compelling performances. It's a series that invites you to peel back its layers and discover its secrets, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.

I give this series 4 out of 5 acorns.
