Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Review

 

Let me start by saying: if you're the kind of person who scoffs at spells, shuns witches, and refuses to suspend disbelief for the sake of a wild supernatural ride—this one’s not for you. “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is a dark, twisted, sometimes campy, often head-scratching reimagining of the ‘90s teen classic. And yet… I couldn’t stop watching.

Kiernan Shipka takes the reins as Sabrina Spellman, our half-witch, half-mortal heroine with a flair for defiance and eyeliner sharp enough to cut glass. She's juggling high school drama with literal Hell politics—and you thought your teen years were rough. Shipka manages to bring both warmth and stubborn fire to the role, which makes her Sabrina both likable and occasionally infuriating (in the way only teenagers can be).

Sabrina’s aunts, Zelda (Miranda Otto, serving fierce matriarch energy) and Hilda (Lucy Davis, delightful as the ever-sunny sibling), are a perfect yin and yang of chaos and care. Then there’s Ambrose, her sexy and sarcastic cousin, played by Chance Perdomo—honestly, he deserved his own spin-off. Add in Ross Lynch as the broody boyfriend Harvey, Gavin Leatherwood as the smoldering Nick Scratch (yes, that name), and Michelle Gomez pulling double duty as Mary Wardwell and the demon Lilith… and you've got a cast that fully leans into the show’s bonkers, gothic glory.

Let’s be real—there are moments where logic checks out and never checks back in. Plot twists can get so wild they feel pulled from a witch’s hat. Some scenes make you go, “Wait, what just happened?” But somehow, you’re still glued to the screen. It’s like being on a rollercoaster through the Underworld: bumpy, weirdly fun, and possibly cursed.

Season four ends with a mix of emotional gut punches and cosmic weirdness, leaving the door wide open for more. But just when we thought we’d get a season five—Netflix slammed that door shut faster than you can say "Hail Satan!" Canceled! No spell strong enough to save it.

Still, I genuinely enjoyed the series. It’s bold, dark, unapologetically weird, and full of heart. If you're down for occult drama, queer romance, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting, give Sabrina a go. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you. Let me know what you think in the comments.
