The Deliverance

"The Deliverance" is a Netflix horror film directed by Lee Daniels, inspired by the real-life case of Latoya Ammons. The movie follows Ebony Jackson (Andra Day), a struggling single mother who moves her family into a new home in Indiana, hoping for a fresh start. However, strange occurrences soon begin to unfold, raising suspicions and threatening to tear the family apart.

The film starts off with a seemingly harmless fly infestation, but things quickly escalate when Ebony's youngest son, Andre (Anthony B. Jenkins), starts talking to an "imaginary friend". Mysterious bruises appear on the children's bodies, and Child Protective Services gets involved, suspecting something sinister is happening.

What I liked about "The Deliverance" is its blend of supernatural horror with deep family drama. Andra Day delivers a stellar performance as Ebony, a troubled mother trying to do her best despite her struggles with alcohol addiction. Glenn "LaPorsha Renee" Close also shines as Ebony's religious mother, Alberta, adding depth to the family dynamics. I did not know that this was a character I was missing in my life until now. Glenn did that dayum thang! 

The film does a great job of building tension and keeping you on the edge of your seat. The supernatural elements, while sometimes bordering on the predictable, are balanced by the emotional weight of the family's story. The movie explores themes of redemption, family dysfunction, and the battle against unseen forces.

If you're a fan of horror movies that delve into the spiritual realm, "The Deliverance" is worth a watch.
